Kate Beckinsale Recalls Michael Bay Slamming Her Appearance In ‘Pearl Harbor’
Kate Beckinsale spoke out about her experience with director Michael Bay Friday on The Graham Norton Show.
Beckinsale said while filming the 2001 production of Pearl Harbor Bay was very vocal – both on and off set – about her not being too attractive. Beckinsale said he was “baffled by me because my boobs weren’t bigger than my head and I wasn’t blond.”
She recalled him often making comments about her weigh, a point of attack due to the fact that at the time she had recently given birth to her daughter.
Vanity Fair found evidence to back up this statement in a interview with Movieline. “I didn’t want someone who was too beautiful,” Bay said. “Women feel disturbed when they see someone’s too pretty.” This statement was followed Bay praising the male leads Ben Affleck and Josh Hartnett.
Bay noted that Hartnett “is going to be f–king huge,” boasting that he would have gotten the lead if it were not for Affleck. For Beckinsale however, all he had to say was “she was solid.”
