Tom Meighan has stepped down from his position as frontman of British rock band Kasabian just one day after pleading guilty to assaulting his ex-fiancée Vikki Ager. On Tuesday, the Leicester Magistrates’ Court ordered Meighan to complete 200 hours of unpaid work.
Kasabian made a statement on Instagram about Meighan leaving the group on Instagram. The post read, “Tom Meighan is stepping down from Kasabian by mutual consent. Tom has struggled with personal issues that have affected his behaviour for quite some time and now wants to concentrate all his energies on getting his life back on track. We will not be commenting further.”
On the day of the assault, Meighan had “smelt heavily of intoxicants.” He then “threw the victim across the room in a rage” where she hit her head on a hamster cage, according to the PA Media news agency. He grabbed Ager’s leg and hit her over the head with a wooden pallet. A child who had witnessed the encounter called police.
Meighan had originally denied the assault before he watched the recorded video tape. While he was watching it he told officer that he could not see any more because it was too “horrible.”
The judge said to the court, “I need to take account of the fact that not only did you hurt Ms Ager, you also let down many people – band members and those who love your music. They will be shocked about what you did that night.”
Brown will be accompanied by guest artists Scotty McCreery, Mitchell Tenpenny, Ashley Cooke and Dasha.
