Kanye West To Be Sued By Mother Of George Floyd’s Daughter For False Remarks About His Murder
Roxie Washington, the mother of George Floyd’s daughter, is planning to sue Kanye West for disparaging and false comments he made about the murder by police of Floyd.
Washington and attorneys at both the Witherspoon Law Group and Dixon & Dixon Attorney At Law will be suing West, also known as Ye, for $250 million.
West made these recent comments on an interview with N.O.R.E. on his Revolt.TV podcast Drink Champs. Along with claiming that Floyd died from a fentanyl overdose, which was proven untrue by a medical examiner, West also made more antisemitic remarks.
Floyd was murdered when former Minneapolis Police Officer Derek Chauvin kneeled on his neck for almost 10 minutes while the man was handcuffed, with the death officially being ruled a homicide. Chauvin is serving 21 years in prison at FCI Tucson and has an estimated release time of December, 2035.
West’s interview has since been pulled, and N.O.R.E. apologized for allowing the rapper to rant unchecked, saying on The Breakfast Club that West “told the producer that if they stopped filming he would walk out.”
According to a press release, West has received a cease-and-desist letter from the family’s legal reps, and they would sue him for “harassment, misappropriation, defamation, and infliction of emotional distress.”
It’s been noted that West’s “business partners, and associates,” could be named in this lawsuit as well.
Attorney Nuru Witherspoon said, “The interest of the child is the priority. George Floyd’s daughter is being retraumatized by Kanye West’s comments and he’s creating an unsafe and unhealthy environment for her.
Here’s a screen grab of the press release announcing the suit, shared by Rolling Stone writer Matt Sullivan. The story was first reported by Click 2 Houston.
