Kanye West has publicly voiced his antisemitic beliefs frequently in recent years, but now he is seeking forgiveness. On Thursday, West posted on X that he sought to change his controversial views. He now claims to “love all people,” asking God to forgive him for the pain he has caused. Many people speculate exactly what could have sparked this sudden change.
“I simply got a FaceTime from my kids, and I wanna save the world again,” West said.
As recently as February, West went on a long rant on X praising Hitler.
Many of West’s professional partners, including Adidas and Balenciaga, have cut ties with him in recent years over his antisemitic comments. Some have speculated that West is again trying to position himself as an acceptable choice for the corporate world.
Many of West’s former friends, such as John Legend, also shared their thoughts on how much he has changed in recent years. Legend, who first worked with West on his album The College Dropout in 2004, spoke about how he “didn’t see a hint” of West’s current behavior when they first met.
According to Legend, West’s mother, Donda West, who died at age 58 in 2007, may have played a major role in this shift. Although West named two albums after her in honor, “there was definitely a difference” after her death.
West stated he is “committed to starting with myself and learning from this experience to ensure greater sensitivity and understanding in the future.”
Byrne also shared that the new tracks are “more story songs than usual.”
