A former employee at Kanye West’s clothing brand Yeezy is suing the rapper and his companies Yeezy and Donda Academy.
The employee, Murphy Aficionado, has filed 12 complaints against West, alleging discrimination, harassment and retaliation.
Aficionado, who was a project manager at Yeezy for nine months, accused West of unlawfully terminating him and not compensating him for his work. A dedicated employee, Aficionado reported that he would work 50-70 hours a week and slept at the office on several occasions, only to be regularly mistreated by the mogul.
Aficionado alleged that West had made discriminatory comments about his traditional Filipino tattoos and told him to remove them. The lawsuit listed other offensive comments West made regularly. “These outbursts often involved claims that Jews were going after him and his money,” and “Jewish masters” controlled “Kim Kardashian and my kids,” the lawsuit claims.
Aficionado’s lawsuit also accused West of summoning him to his hotel room at the Beverly Hills Waldorf Astoria to watch West and his then-girlfriend (now wife) Bianca Censori have relations. After the uncomfortable encounter, West put on a t-shirt with a swastika and grilled Aficionado to get his opinion on the outfit. He proceeded to show Aficionado a series of revealing photos of his ex-wife Kim Kardashian against his will.
The lawsuit further alleged that in February 2023, West had ordered Aficionado to relocate his school, Donda Academy, and refused to abide by the required building permits Aficionado informed him of. A Donda Acamdey representative announced the school would no longer be in operation in July 2023, and shortly after, Aficionado was terminated.
Aficionado is demanding a jury trial.
Despite the steady flood of assault and discrimination lawsuits and accusations against West, he continues to profit through his fashion empire.
