Kanye West Returns To Twitter With A Message: ‘Shalom’

It seems like Kanye West‘s “verbal fast” is already over. Spoiler alert: it did not, in fact, last 30 days as promised.

The rapper returned to Twitter on Sunday after a two-week break following backlash from his concerning antisemitic comments last month.

Over the weekend, West tweeted “shalom,” the Hebrew word for “peace,” and a smiley face. He had posted earlier, “Testing Testing Seeing if my Twitter is unblocked.”

West’s Twitter and Instagram accounts were restricted in October after he shared a series of offensive remarks. After experiencing significant financial consequences for his actions, the rapper announced in a November 3 tweet, “I’m not talking to nooobody for a month.” He called his plan “a 30-day cleanse” and a “verbal fast.”

West added that during said “cleanse,” there would be “no alcohol, no adult films [and] no intercourse” for him.

Elon Musk himself replied to the rapper’s first post in a while. “Don’t kill what ye hate. Save what ye love,” Musk wrote cryptically.

According to Musk, Twitter restored West’s account before Musk took ownership of the social media platform. “They did not consult with or inform me,” the new CEO of Twitter wrote in an October 28 tweet.

On October 8, West threatened to go “death con 3 On JEWISH PEOPLE” on Twitter. “You guys have toyed with me and tried to black ball anyone whoever opposes your agenda,” he wrote at the time.

West is certainly no stranger to controversy, but people reacted strongly to his latest wave of hurtful ideas. Celebrities like Amy Schumer, John Legend, Jack Antonoff and even West’s ex-wife, Kim Kardashian, have all spoken out against West’s antisemitism.

And since his remarks, West can no longer claim billionaire status following the loss of lucrative deals with the likes of Adidas, Balenciaga, Gap and JPMorgan Chase.
