Kanye West is no longer performing a headlining show at The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, which has its first weekend coming up very soon on April 15. He was originally set to headline alongside Billie Eilish and Harry Styles, and West’s replacement has not been set. The Weeknd and Grammy-winning duo Silk Sonic are both reportedly in consideration for the spot.
West is reportedly dropping out of the show due to difficulties stemming from his divorce from Kim Kardashian, and online feuds with public figures such as her boyfriend Pete Davidson and The Daily Show host Trevor Noah.
West posted a photo of Noah on Instagram accompanied by a racial slur in response to Noah dedicating an unscripted segment on his show to West’s online harassment of Kardashian and Davidson, calling it “terrifying to watch.” The rapper was subsequently banned from the social media platform for 24 hours, and a planned Grammy Awards performance was scrapped likely because Noah was the show’s host and producers feared tension.
West had also threatened to walk from Coachella in February when he perceived comments co-headliner Billie Eilish made at a concert as indirect criticism of Travis Scott and said he wouldn’t perform if Eilish didn’t apologize. Eilish has denied this.
