Rapper Kanye West hosted a listening party in Chicago for his new album, Vultures, along with Ty Dolla Sign at the United Center. This last-minute announcement was made via social media, and ticket sales for the venue went up sometime later.
Although the post was vague, tickets started to sell immediately, with hundreds flocking to the United Center. There was also an option to live stream the event for $19.99. Doors opened around 9 p.m., and the concert had a late start at around 10 p.m.
During the concert, West had a line alluding to controversial antisemitic opinions he has made in the past, stating, “I’m still crazy, bipolar, antisemite, and I’m still the King.”
The feed went silent after these lyrics, suggesting it was intentional.
The stream eventually resumed just in time for his daughter, North West, to perform. Other artists like YG and Bump J were also taken to the stage. West only performed 12 songs before the event ended, with the lights turning on. Concert-goers still seemed to have had a great time despite the short event.
Once the concert was over, fans realized that West’s album had not yet dropped. Vultures has been highly anticipated by fans—it was supposed to drop in December but has since been delayed for a few months.
As of now, West has another listening event booked for February 9 at the UBS arena in Long Island, New York. This may have come as a shock to some, as West himself declared that he was unable to book venues due to his past controversial statements.
West is no stranger to controversy. He was embroiled in numerous scandals during his divorce from reality star Kim Kardashian and with his new wife, Bianca Censori. West recently grabbed the phone of a journalist who asked him if Censori had “free will” in their relationship.
As of now, no announcement for the release of Vultures has been made.
