Kanye West Announces He’s Distancing Himself From Politics

Kanye West, who called Donald Trump his “brother,” now claims he’s stepping away from politics.

After being a vocal supporter of Trump, the decision seems to come after he was tied to a campaign known as Blexit.

Run by Conservative commentator Candace Owens, it encourages black Americans to quit the Democratic party. Owens also claimed the rapper designed the campaign clothing, something he’s now denying.

“I introduced Candace to the person who made the logo and they didn’t want their name on it so she used mine,” he tweeted. “I never wanted any association with Blexit. I have nothing to do with it.”

He also tweeted, “My eyes are now wide open and now realize I’ve been used to spread messages I don’t believe in,” he wrote. “I am distancing myself from politics and completely focusing on being creative !!!”

The news comes just a few weeks after West appeared on Satuday Night Live in an embarrassing performance where he wore a “Make America Great Again” hat and gave an unscripted, off-air rant in support of the president. The pair recently met multiple times to discuss issues like employment and criminal justice reform.

West ended his series of tweets saying “I believe in love and compassion for people seeking asylum and parents who are fighting to protect their children from violence and war.”

“I would like to thank my family, loved ones, and community for supporting my ACTUAL beliefs and my vision for a better world.”
