Kanye West, Adele Top 2011 Grammy Nominations

Music lovers are buzzing this morning about the 54th Annual Grammy Awards nominations, which were announced Wednesday night on CBS.

Rapper Kanye West led the pack with seven nominations, though he was only honored in one of the four main categories, receiving a Song of the Year nod for his single, "All of the Lights." Otherwise he was largely relegated to his genre, being honored for Best Rap Performance for "Otis," on which he collaborated with Jay-Z, and Best Rap Song for both "Otis" and "All of the Lights."

West's My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy was passed up for the coveted category of Best Album, though Lady Gaga's Born This Way, Rihanna's Loud and Bruno Mars' Doo-Wops & Hooligans will contend with Foo Fighters' Wasting Light and Adele's 21 in this category. Also interestingly passed up for Best Album was Kanye's awards ceremony rival, Taylor Swift for her album Speak Now, which recently swept the Country Music Awards and the American Music Awards.

All told, Adele, Foo Fighters, and Bruno Mars all tied for second place with six nominations each, followed by Lil Wayne and surprise honoree Skrillex with five, including a Best New Artist nod for the latter. Rihanna, Radiohead, Bon Iver, Drake, and Mumford & Sons each came in with four nominations. The late Amy Winehouse was nominated for her posthumously released duet with Tony Bennett, "Body and Soul."

The Grammys will air February 12 at 8:00 p.m. EST on CBS.

  • That's too bad for Kanye. My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy is a truly great album and should at least be nominated. I mean, Bruno Mars, c'mon.
