On New Year’s Eve, Kanye West dropped his new single, “FACTS,” on Soundcloud shortly before the midnight hour hit.
The world was introduced to the new single by his ultra famous wife, Kim Kardashian. when she tweeted “FACTS” with the link to Soundcloud on Thursday.
The song, in all caps for a reason, was a long, continuous rant from West about not being allowed to branch out creatively. His first target was Nike when he berated the popular brand for not giving him enough creative freedom with his shoe line. West rapped, “Yeezy, Yeezy, Yeezy, just jumped over Jumpman,” in reference to Nike’s iconic Jumpman brand. HIs other lyrics target the presidential election with, “2020, I’mma run the whole election,” and, “Couches, couches, couches, couches, which one should I pick?”
It is uncertain if the track will appear on his upcoming album or if this was a ploy to get the media’s attention. West recently signed a $10 million contract with ADIDAS after leaving Nike. West told radio station, Hot 97 that Nike had failed to offer him the decent royalties on his Air Yeezy shoe. ADIDAS is West’s new answer for the time being with the reported $10 million contract.
Along with the release of West’s “FACTS,” Taylor Swift also dropped her new video for “Out of the Woods” on Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin New Year’s Eve with Ryan Seacrest. The video portrays Swift wandering through an enchanted forest while being chased by a pack of wolves. As of today, the video reached over 2.5 million YouTube views.
It seems to be a trend for artists to announce new music unexpectedly, from Drake to Beyonce.
