Xavier Worthy, a star receiver for the Kansas City Chiefs, was arrested Friday night on an assault charge against a family member.
The arrest comes four weeks after he capped an impressive rookie season by scoring two touchdowns in Super Bowl LIX. Worthy posed for a mugshot after being charged with assaulting a family or household member by impeding their breathing or circulation, according to the record. The arrest occurred in Williamson County, Texas.

Chip Lewis and Sam Bassett, two lawyers representing Worthy, released a statement regarding his arrest, “We are aware of the allegation that led to Mr. Worthy’s arrest. We are working with law enforcement in Williamson County to ensure they benefit from the circumstances that led to this allegation.
“The complainant was asked multiple times over the last two weeks to vacate Mr. Worthy’s residence upon discovery of his infidelity, which a private investigator has video evidence of,” the statement continued. “She has refused to vacate the residence and made some extortive efforts before this baseless allegation against Mr. Worthy. The complaint further destroyed a room in the residence, scratched Mr. Worthy’s face, and ripped out parts of his hair, which this is photographic evidence of. Mr. Worthy told law enforcement at the time of the incident that he did not want to press charges against the complainant.”

“We will continue cooperating with Williamson County authorities as we have full faith their thorough investigation will support Mr. Worthy’s innocence,” they concluded.
Worthy, 21, started his football career in Texas before becoming the Chiefs’ first-round pick in 2024’s NFL Draft. The Chiefs also had four additional players arrested last season, including another receiver coming off a strong rookie season and Super Bowl. Rashee Rice was arrested on assault charges (that were later dropped) and once for his role in a high-speed car crash that damaged five vehicles.
Worthy was later released Saturday after District Attorney Shawn Dick declined to pursue charges against the Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver. Dick said that authorities would not be accepting’s Worthy’s case.
“After further investigation by the Williamson County Sheriff’s office and further discussion with third-party witnesses,” Dick said. “Mr. Worthy and his attorneys, this case is being declined at this time, pending completion of the investigation by the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office. Mr. Worthy and his lawyers are fully cooperating with this investigation.”
