Remember that old rusty scooter you used to push around the neighborhood? This isn’t that scooter.
Meet Jyro Scooter, the lightest electric scooter in the world, weighing in at just 6.9kg (15lbs). While at first glance it looks like your average analog scooter, the lightweight, yet incredibly strong carbon fibre frame hides a powerful 250w patented drive system capable of traveling 25km (15.5mph). Perfect for an everyday commute that is too short for a car but too long to walk, Jyro Scooter is durable for everyday use, and suitable for riders of all different sizes, supporting up to 125kg/275lbs. Not to mention the whole system folds up for easy carry within two seconds!
Jyro has updated the scooter rider experience, bringing high-tech features one might find in a modern car to a small personal transportation system. In addition to its two-hour battery life, each scooter comes equipped with an LED light strip, a Microelectronic Control Brake System (EABS), rear Mechanical Brake Assist, and a Kinetic Energy Recovery System (KERS), which uses the braking system as a way to recharge the battery. Starting the scooter’s motor requires an initial kick-off, preventing the device from accelerating out from under the rider.
Ciara O’Brien found the Irish company behind the scooter at the annual CES convention in Las Vegas, where she reported to the Irish Times, “It [Jyro Scooter] wasn’t short of volunteers looking to try out the product. In a hall filled with people precariously balancing on “hover boards”, the Jyro seemed a lot safer to try out – and a lot more fun.”
Jyro Scooter is available for purchase on Amazon, and comes in three models: 1.0 ($1,199), 1.2 ($1,399), and 1.3 ($1,499). Upgraded models can travel greater distances on a single charge. Hoverboards better watch out!
