Justin Williams Charged With Murdering & Dismembering Girlfriend D’Asia Johnson

Justin Williams, 24, has been indicted in the case of the stabbing death of girlfriend D’Asia Johnson on August 21.

Prosecutors in the case claimed that on that day Williams killed 22-year-old Johnson and chopped up her body, using cleaning products to try to mask the smell. According to the prosecution, Johnson was stabbed nine times, “five in the chest, and four in the back.”

Williams had been living in Johnson’s Brooklyn, New York apartment for a month until building employees inspected the residence. “The defendant allegedly fled the apartment following a wellness check by building personnel who became concerned because they had not seen the victim in a while,” police said in a statement.

Police interviewed Williams for up to two hours on October 1 during which he admitted to the homicide. Williams had originally been arrested for different crimes, including assault, grand larceny and bail jumping.

Authorities learned more regarding the relationship from neighbors. One neighbor claimed that “he broke her ribs, her legs, a couple months ago,” and that the 22-year-old was seen on crutches once back from the hospital.

Another resident said, “You hear arguing, banging, loud stuff, regular stuff. But you can’t—like I said, if you try to interrupt and stuff, you’re putting yourself in a problem you can’t solve.”

The apartment was discovered blood-soaked on September 21 and Johnson’s body was found dismembered and split between suitcases.

The prosecution revealed that Williams had given Johnson’s government benefits card to another girlfriend, Tatiana Hackett. Hackett had used the card seven times since the 22-year-old’s death, spending up to $500 at grocery stores. She was also arrested, on charges including welfare fraud and identity theft.

Although Hackett benefited from the killing, authorities do not believe that she had any hand in the crime. Detectives have questioned several people regarding the murder but came back with similar conclusions that none of “the other people had any participation in the homicide.”
