Singer Justin Timberlake was arrested for driving while intoxicated after leaving a restaurant in Sag Harbor on Long Island, New York, late Monday night, police said.
Sag Harbor police pulled over the 43-year-old Grammy winner after leaving the American Hotel restaurant where he had been dining. Timberlake was driving to a friend’s house when he was stopped.
A representative for the Sag Harbor Police Department confirmed that Timberlake was in police custody as of Tuesday morning on a charge of driving while intoxicated or impaired. Police said they would be releasing an official statement later in the day.
The singer was arrested on DWI charges after the traffic stop, but no injuries were reported. Timberlake is expected to be arraigned on Tuesday morning.
After his arraignment, Timberlake is due back in court on July 26 for a hearing on the DWI charge.
Timberlake rose to stardom in the late 1990s as the lead singer of the boy band NSYNC and went on to a highly successful solo career that featured several multi-platinum albums and hits like “Rock Your Body,” “SexyBack” and “Mirrors.” However, his most recent solo effort, Everything I Thought It Was, released in March, received poor reviews and was his first album since 2002 to miss the No. 1 spot on the Billboard chart.
Last year, Timberlake got into a feud with his ex, Britney Spears, over comments she made about him in her book.
