Almost a decade since the debut of the hit television series Rick and Morty, Justin Roiland, who is currently facing domestic abuse charges in connection with a 2020 incident, will no longer be part of the show, Adult Swim announced.
Roiland is the sci-fi comedy’s co-creator along with Dan Harmon and he famously voices both the alcoholic mad scientist and his grandson.

This came a week following the 42-year-old’s resignation from his video game studio, Squanch Games, which recently released the comedic adventure-styled High On Life.
Fans can still expect a seventh season of Rick and Morty sometime this year, though the main characters will be recast. Additional details about the recasting and prospective actors are not known, according to a statement from Marie Moore, the senior Vice President of communications at parent company Warner Bros Discovery.
A day after Adult Swim’s decision, Hulu followed suit and cut its ties with the 42-year-old producer and actor, who is featured on the network’s Solar Opposites as Korvo and also on Koala Man. Both animated shows will move forward without Roiland’s participation.
“To be clear, not only is Justin innocent but we also have every expectation that this matter is on course to be dismissed once the District Attorney’s office has completed its methodical review of the evidence,” Roiland’s attorney T. Edward Welbourn told Rolling Stone. “We look forward to clearing Justin’s name and helping him move forward as swiftly as possible.”
The 42-year-old has pleaded not guilty to all his charges and awaits a trial.
