Justin Lin Directing ‘Star Trek 3’

Justin Lin, the action director best known for his work on three of the Fast and Furious movies, has agreed to direct Star Trek 3 for Paramount. Currently, Lin is signed to direct the first two episodes of the new season of True Detective and will begin pre-production once that is complete. Lin will be taking over for Roberto Orci, who co-wrote the previous JJ Abrams-directed movies. Abrams left the project to direct Star Wars and Orci was set to take over the reigns but was fired unceremoniously due to creative differences.

Lin has been known to come on to struggling franchises. Prior to accepting the Star Trek gig, Lin directed three Fast and Furious movies, including these last two which made the most money in the franchise’s history. He’s also set to take over the Bourne series spinoff starring Jeremy Renner.
