Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Justin Blackmon was arrested Wednesday night in Edmond, Okla., for allegedly possessing marijuana.
Blackmon was pulled over for a driving violation after he tried to get into a left turn lane at a stoplight, reported USA Today Sports. “To do that he went around all of the parked cars … to get into that left turn, and one of our officers was at that intersection and saw it happen," said Edmond police’s public information officer Jenny Monroe.
Upon pulling Blackmon over, the officer at the scene smelled marijuana emanating from the vehicle. When asked about the odor, Blackmon admitted to smoking a joint and that he had another blunt in a box within the car.
"He did go ahead and admit that there was marijuana in the vehicle," said Monroe. "Mr. Blackmon said he had been smoking a blunt (marijuana cigar) while he was driving and that there was another full blunt within the car in a box, and that's exactly what our officers found in the vehicle."
Prior to this latest incident, Blackmon was already indefinitely suspended from the Jacksonville Jaguars for multiple violations of the NFL’s substance abuse policy. In response to the latest incident, Jaguars owner Shad Khan said in a statement, “We want Justin Blackmon to get well."
Blackmon, who played in and started four games last season in between his suspensions, racked up impressive stats – catching 29 passes for 415 yards and one touchdown. In his rookie season in 2012, Blackmon caught 64 passes for 865 yards and five touchdowns.
