Justin Bieber Banned From Performing In China For "Bad Behavior"
Pop super star Justin Bieber released “Friends” on Thursday, his first solo single since 2015’s “Company.”
“Friends” was co-written by Julia Michaels, Justin Tranter, BloodPop, and Bieber, the same group behind the wildly successful single “Sorry” off of Bieber’s 2015 album Purpose. BloodPop also serves as the song’s producer.
The 23-year-old singer announced the release of the single earlier this week when he tweeted out an image of the single’s cover art, captioning the photo, “New music. Thursday noon.”
The new single appears to be a plea to an ex to remain friends after the break up. “Can we still be friends / Doesn’t have to end / And if it ends / Can we be friends,” Bieber sings before a high-pitched vocal breaks into the club-track.
It is unclear at the time if “Friends” is part of a full length album. Purpose, Bieber’s most recent album, was released in 2015. Currently, this is longest Bieber has gone between releases.
Additionally, Bieber canceled the remainder of his Purpose World Tour in July due to “unforeseen circumstances.”
Despite the lengthy wait in between albums and the cancelled tour, Bieber has been enjoying a fruitful 2017.
The “Despacitio” remix featuring Bieber recently tied the record for the longest streak at the number one spot on the Hot 100 Billboard chart. It currently has been at the number one spot for 14 weeks.
His Purpose World Tour also ended its 16-month run by racking up more than $250 million in ticket sales, according to Billboard.
