Justin Bieber unnecessarily drew attention to himself Thursday after he questioned whether or not Prince was the last of the greatest living performers.

Justin Bieber On Prince

Bieber’s pal, musician Andrew Watt, took to Instagram like many others to remember Prince after learning of his shocking death in the elevator of his Paisley Park estate on Thursday morning. In his heartfelt post, Watt shared that just the day before he had proudly rocked his Prince shirt all day long after wearing it at a gig. Mourning the “Purple Rain” singer, Watt called him “the last of the greatest living performers.”

“This past Tuesday night before my show I was picking out an outfit…I was so tired from the past week of endless traveling and gigging that I grabbed my Prince shirt and said fuck it I’m gonna channel the purple one tonight…I didn’t shower after the gig out of pure exhaustion…I went to sleep in that shirt and then I wore it again all day yesterday,” Watt wrote. “Today waking up to this news I am truly beside myself…devastated…the last of the greatest living performers…my guitar idol…his connection to ALL his instruments yielded a sexual transcending aura and the world is just less fucking cool without him walking on it…”

Bieber decided to share his two cents in the comments, writing, “Well not the last greatest living performer.”

It’s unknown if Bieber was referring to himself, some other artist, or if he’s still bitter about Prince suggesting a few years ago that he learn more instruments if he wants to stay relevant for years to come.

“The key to longevity is to learn every aspect of music that you can,” Prince said on The View in 2010. “And I hope that he does pick up an instrument and get a good teacher.”
