Justice League
The Justice League cast brings two pieces of news this week, with olny one regarding the upcoming film.
The cast assembled yesterday for a video to promote the Rezpect Our Water campaign, which is a petition to stop construction plans of the Dakota Access pipeline.
Actors Ben Affleck, Ray Fisher, Gal Gadot, Jason Momoa and Ezra Miller appeared in the video on change.org. “As a gang of Earth defenders, we want to send a big shoutout to the Oceti Sakowin and those that stand with them in opposing the Dakota Access Pipeline,” Miller said to the camera. “To get involved with this movement, go to the sacredstonecamp.org.”
The pipeline would transport oil between North Dakota and Illinois, but through sacred land belonging to the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe. While the US Army Corps of Engineers approved the project, pipelines are generally unsafe, and this one threatens leakage that would poison the nearby Missouri River and possibly the entire local ecosystem.
The Standing Rock Sioux Tribe requested a temporary restraining order against Dakota Access on Sunday and Judge James Boasberg granted it in part and will make a decision on Friday regarding the Tribe’s challenge to the pipeline.
In other Justice League news, actor J.K. Simmons wrapped his filming for the role of Commissioner Gordon. The film is not slated to premiere until Nov. 10, 2017, so Simmons’s wrap seems a bit premature; however, he had previously confirmed the role was a small one.
“My part is done. They are filming that for basically most of 2016, so some of the superheroes are still at work in jolly old London, but I’m back home with my family,” Simmons told ET. “[My scenes were] mostly with Ben. In this first installment of the Justice League, Commissioner Gordon is not a particularly sizable part. We just kind of introduce him and see a little bit of his interactions with Batman — and with most of the Justice League.”
