Jurassic Park star Jeff Goldblum recently opened up about his parenting approach. He emphasized his commitment to instilling a strong work ethic in his two sons, Charlie, 8, and River, 6, whom he shares with his wife, Emilie Livingston – by disinheriting them.
In an appearance on the podcast Table for Two with Bruce Bozzi, Goldblum discussed his parenting philosophy with host Bruce Bozzi.
Goldblum believes that his children should learn the value of hard work and self-sufficiency as they grow older. He shared with them his expectation that they would learn to support themselves financially in the future. Goldblum firmly told his sons, “‘Hey, you know, you’ve got to row your own boat.’ It’s an important thing to teach kids. I’m not going to do it for you. And you’re not going to want me to do it for you.”
He continued, “You’ve got to figure out how to find out what’s wanted and needed and where that intersects with your love and passion and what you can do… And even it if doesn’t, you might have to do that anyway.”
In February, Goldblum’s wife shared a video that showed their eldest son Charlie’s impressive piano skills. Charlie played with remarkable speed and familiarity at just eight years old, with a talent beyond his years.
In previous interviews, Goldblum has reflected on the joys and challenges of parenthood. In 2018, he remarked on the evolving dynamics of his growing family. He pondered the future and considered the legacy he would leave for his children and the significance of his choices. Goldblum expressed gratitude that he waited until the right time to become a father and noted that it aligns perfectly with the profound questions and responsibilities of raising children.
In 2019, Goldblum was in the news when he said he would work to defend Woody Allen from abuse charges.
