Julianna Marguiles recently opened up on why she’s decided to wear a wig while playing high-powered attorney Alicia Florrick on CBS’s The Good Wife.

Julianna Marguiles's 'Good Wife' Wig

Marguiles, 47, who prior to landing the lead role on The Good Wife was best known for playing Nurse Carol Hathaway on ER, wanted a departure from her natural look. As the suburb of Chicago housewife and mother-turned-litigator, Marguiles felt like she should look a bit more WASPy.

"Well, the main reason, honestly, was because I wanted her to have a little bit of that WASPy look to her and I'm a Jew with curly hair," Margulies said on The Writers' Room.

In order to get that WASPy look naturally, Marguiles, who has raven black curls, would have had to spend a lot of time getting her hair done before filming, which seemed impossible for the mother of one. The wig timesaver is something that CBS has tried to get other actresses to adopt, and have enlisted Marguilies on multiple occasions to recommend it.

“I know that that takes two hours in the makeup chair and I don’t have that kind of time,” Marguiles said. “I’ve actually had CBS executives call me to call actors that they want [to wear] a wig, and say, ‘Can you talk her into it, and let her know that it’s a great thing, not a bad thing.’”
