Juice WRLD Cause Of Death Revealed As A Drug Overdose

New details emerged about the death of hip-hop artist Juice WRLD, which revealed his cause of death to be drug overdose. In a tweet posted to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Twitter page, it was revealed that rapper, given name Jarad Anthony Higgins, had overdosed on oxycodone and codeine, and it was determined that he died accidentally. The two drugs are often-prescribed painkillers and are commonly used in a recreational way.

The rapper had written songs which dealt with his struggles with drug addiction. “Drugs got me sweatin’, but the room gettin’ colder / Lookin’ at the devil and the angel on my shoulder / Will I die tonight? I don’t know, is it over? / Lookin’ for my next high, I’m lookin’ for closure,” he rapped on 2018’s “Lean Wit Me.” It should also be noted that the song’s title could be a reference to “lean,” a popular but dangerous mixture of cough syrup and a soft drink that often contains codeine.

Juice Wrld died in December, at the age of 21, at Chicago’s Midway Airport. After arriving in a private plane, eyewitnesses say that the artist began to have a seizure before being taken to Christ Medical Center, the Chicago Sun Times reported. Soon after arriving at the hospital, he was pronounced dead.

Before his death, the young rapper’s career was skyrocketing. He had put out an EP, Nothing’s Different, in 2017, around the time he graduated from high school. A single from that EP, “Lucid Dreams (Forget Me)” peaked at number 2 on the Billboard charts. The last album he released while alive was last year’s Death Race for Love, which debuted at number 1 on Billboard’s album charts.
