Tanya Chutkan, a U.S. district judge who is presiding over Donald Trump’s election interference case in Washington D.C., was “swatted” on Sunday night.
Police and fire services responded to a reported shooting at a home owned by Chutkan.
Chutkan was not at her residence when law enforcement responded to the call. There was also no one at her home when the police showed up.
Swatting is a term for when someone makes a false report of a crime in progress to draw police to a certain location, hopefully, the “SWAT” team. Several notable political figures have been recent targets of swatting, including Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Georgia), who said that her daughters’ homes were targeted days after Christmas.
Chutkan is overseeing the federal election interference case against Trump for plotting to overturn his 2020 election loss. The trial is scheduled to begin in March. Trump is also facing three other criminal prosecutions in other jurisdictions.
Chutkan has faced previous threats. A Texas woman was arrested and charged last August after leaving a threatening, racially tinged message to Chutkan.
