A new ruling on Friday ordered Ivanka Trump to take the witness stand in the civil fraud case against her father, Donald Trump.
Ivanka was dismissed as a defendant in New York Attorney General Letitia James’ lawsuit against the former president – in which he and his family are accused of fraudulently inflating his net worth over the years in order to get loans and lower interest rates – four months ago.
Her legal team has been trying to dodge state requests for Ivanka’s testimony, claiming that her dismissal from the case and relocation from New York to Florida should exempt her from serving as a witness.
The state’s lawyers, however, argued that Ivanka still has relevant information to offer the court.
“Ms. Trump has clearly availed herself of the privilege of doing business in New York,” said Judge Arthur Engoron, who cited documents proving that Ivanka still has personal and professional ties in New York.
Engeron ruled that Ivanka’s testimony would take place after November 1, giving her legal team time to appeal.
The trial against the former president is ongoing, and he and his sons are expected to testify at some point, as well.
Ivanka has been busy in Miami building a $34 million mansion with her husband, Jared Kushner, which some have dubbed “Mar-a-Lago 2.”
