Judge Dismisses Lawsuit Against Beyonce For Copyright Infringement

Beyonce had been facing copyright infringement charges brought by an independent Kentucky filmmaker for allegedly copying elements of his work for her visual album Lemonade.

BEYONCE LAWSUIT DISMISSED

Federal Judge Jed Rakoff threw out filmmaker Matthew Fulks‘s claims that the trailer accompanying Beyonce’s album stole from his 2014 film short entitled “Palinoia.” See the HBO trailer below.

Fulks brought the suit against Beyonce, her management company Parkwood Entertainment, Sony Music Entertainment and Columbia Recording Group in June of this year. Fulks claimed that a link to his film had been sent to the SVP at Columbia, who then decided to use ideas from the film in Lemonade.

Judge Rakoff has yet to reveal his reasoning behind tossing the lawsuit, and lawyers also have yet to comment.

Beyonce took home eight Moonmen awards at the 2016 MTV VMAs, which took place last Sunday, August 28 at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
