Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Suzanne Brugera ruled on Thursday that there was a lack of sufficient evidence to support Sam Lufti's allegations against Lynne Spears and Jamie Spears, the parents of Britney Spears, in the defamation trial he brought against them, and the case was thrown out of court after two weeks of consideration.
Lufti, 38, claimed that he had been hired as Spears' manager between the years of 2007 and 2008, before the star's public meltdown, and that he was owed money for part of the time that he served, reports the New York Times, while the Spears family pointed out that he never had a legal contract that he could present. Lufti also claimed that Lynne had falsely accused him of trying to cut the young Britney off from her family in her 2008 book, Through the Storm.
Part of the lawsuit also involved claims of physical assault, which Lufti claimed he suffered at the hands of Jamie after Britney's 2008 emotional breakdown that landed her in a psychiatric hospital. While Spears' attorney Michael Aiken revealed that there was physical contact between the two on that morning, "It was purely an incident that occurred on the spur of the moment. Whether we call it a punch or a poke, the fact of the matter is, he wasn't hurt," he said, reports E! Online. Furthermore, Aiken argued, "Lufti said [he] was going to be fine and how can you award damages to someone who said he was fine?"
"I really thought long and hard," said Brugera before throwing the case out of court and guaranteeing it will never go before a jury. "It's the right thing to do, so I am going to do it."
Lufti and his attorney, Joseph Schleimer, reported that they planned to appeal the motion.
