Joss Whedon Launches Hillary Clinton Super PAC With Celeb-Packed Video

Joss Whedon, The Avengers writer and director, has launched a Super PAC and assembled a team of celebrities to help him fight for Hillary Clinton to win the 2016 presidential election.

Joss Whedon Super PAC

Whedon founded the pro-Clinton super PAC Save the Day earlier this year, donating $1 million of his own money. While Whedon sees plenty of room for attacking Clinton’s adversary Donald Trump, he plans to use his PAC to make a pro-voting message instead.

“It’s not about attacking because Donny’s real good at attacking himself,” Whedon told The Hollywood Reporter. “It’s about getting people to vote, because it’s frightening the apathy that people are treating the most crucial election of their lifetimes with.”

Whedon, who had hoped that Clinton would win the Democratic presidential nomination, got to work on his PAC before the DNC and then stepped it up to high gear as it commenced.

“I wasn’t going to do anything until she got the nomination,” Whendon says. “And then it was the first night of the Democratic Convention — before Michelle Obama spoke — when the Democrats were so fractious that I just went into the sweats and was like, ‘I’ve misinterpreted what needs to be done.’”

Whedon believes that part of what needs to be done and what he can do, is to get people to stop for a moment and pay attention, to mobilize people within the demographics who tend to vote Democrat to vote, to upend any and all apathy. Using actors, using humor and using emotion is part of this strategy.

“No one really cares what an actor’s opinion is. Seeing somebody famous makes people stop,” Whedon explained. “Seeing something funny makes people stop. Seeing something with emotion makes people stop. Those are the ways you can get to people.”

Whedon’s Save the Day super PAC is currently working on 10 pro-Clinton videos. The filmmaker hopes to put out somewhere between 15 and 25 before Election Day.

Save the Day’s first video, titled Important, features the likes of Robert Downey Jr., Mark Ruffalo, Scarlett Johansson, Martin Sheen, Colbie Smulders, Jesse Williams and Taran Killam.
