Joss Whedon To Direct Standalone ‘Batgirl’ Movie
Filmmaker Joss Whedon is planning to write, direct, and produce a standalone Batgirl movie for Warner Bros.

As popular as Batgirl is, the superheroine has never gotten her own movie. The character first appeared in DC Comics in 1967. This project will be just the second movie from DC Films to feature a female lead, following Wonder Woman with Gal Gadot.
Whedon previously worked within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, having written and directed The Avengers. He also created TV’s Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel and Firefly.

Other works within the DC Extended Universe at Warner Bros. include Man of Steel, Justice League, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad. The studio is already working on a sequel for Suicide Squad, as well as The Batman, starring Ben Affleck again as the Caped Crusader.
The Batgirl character of the upcoming film will be her “New 52” version, who appeared in the 2011 DC reboot. Her civilian character is Barbara Gordon, daughter of Commissioner Gordon.
