Josh Boone, the writer and director best known for The Fault in Our Stars, has officially penned the screenplay for Interview with the Vampire.
Boone took to Instagram last week, revealing that he co-wrote The Interview with the Vampire remake script with his frequent writing collaborator Jill Killington. The two last worked together on Katie Holmes’ directorial debut All We Had. Boone and Killington based their new film on two of Anne Rice‘s novels – Interview with the Vampire and The Vampire Lestat.
There has been talk about an Interview with the Vampire reboot since 2014, when Universal Pictures and Imagine Entertainment acquired the rights to Rice’s The Vampire Chronicles book series. Initial reports claimed that Boone would base his screenplay off of The Vampire Lestat and The Queen of the Damned.
By adapting The Interview with the Vampire, Boone is recreating the adaptation that starred Brad Pitt, Tom Cruise and Kirsten Dunst in 1994. In 2002, the late singer Aaliyah starred in an adaptation of Queen of the Damned. As of yet, there’s been no word about casting for the film, or if future installments are planned.
Boone’s writing and directing credits also include Stuck in Love and the forthcoming X-Men: The New Mutants.
