Joseph Fiennes, 42, is in talks with FX to appear in a recurring role on Ryan Murphy's American Horror Story, starring Jessica Lange, Dylan McDermott, Denis O'Hare and Connie Britton, and which has been picked up for a second season that will premiere in October.
Fiennes would play the "tortured" head of the institution for the criminally insane where Lange's character works, and he would engage in a May/December romance with her, reports Entertainment Weekly.
The role would constitute the third time Fiennes has teamed up with Murphy — the first in Running with Scissors, based on the Augusten Burroughs' memoir, and the second in the pilot for the 2007 Pretty/Handsome, in which Fiennes played a transgender gynecologist, but which was never picked up.
Also popping up in the second season of American Horror Story will be James Cromwell, Chloe Sevigny, Zachary Quinto, Adam Levine, and Sarah Paulson.
