Jordan Peele Premieres New Horror Film ‘Us’ At SXSW 2019 To Rave Reviews

Jordan Peele premiered his new horror film, Us, to the audience at the South by Southwest film festival at the Paramount Theater.

Peele started the event off with a joke that made the packed moviegoers howl with laughter.

“What if I just showed four episodes of This Is Us with no explanation,” said Peele. “This movie is about a lot of things… and, well, enjoy.”

Since the trailer dropped last Christmas, questions have been asked if Peele’s follow-up to 2017 Get Out, would live up to the hype or not. Expectations were high, but after the first public screening of the film, those worries were quickly eased.

The audience was captivated by the film, which stars Black Panther co-stars Lupita Nyong’o and Winston Duke, as a family terrorized by evil doubles.

After the screening, Peele addressed his motivations for the film and the themes it explores.

“On the broader strokes of things, this movie is about this country,” he explained. “I was stricken with the fact that we are in a time where we fear the other, whether it is the mysterious invader that we think is going to come and kill us, take our jobs, or the faction that we don’t live near that voted a different way than us. We’re all about pointing the finger. And I wanted to suggest that maybe the monster we really need to look at has our face, maybe the evil is us.”
