Joni Mitchell was rushed to the hospital Tuesday afternoon after she was found unconscious in her Bel Air home.
Mitchell, 71, was taken to a Los Angeles area hospital Tuesday after she was found unconscious at around 2:30 p.m. local time, according to TMZ. En route to the hospital, Mitchell regained consciousness and was alert. The singer-songwriter, who remains in intensive care, reportedly underwent a surgery Tuesday.
“She is currently in intensive care undergoing tests and is awake and in good spirits,” reads a statement on Mitchell’s website. “More updates to come as we hear them. Light a candle and sing a song, let’s all send good wishes her way.”
Mitchell, who rose up in the 1960s Woodstock-era music scene, is best known for songs “The Circle Game”, “Help Me” and “Big Yellow Taxi,” which the Counting Crows covered in 2002. She was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1997 and has earned eight Grammy awards.
