Joni Mitchell recently revealed that she vetoed the idea of a biopic starring Taylor Swift, calling the country singer nothing more than “a girl with high cheekbones.”
In 2012, it was reported that Swift was in talks to play Mitchell in a movie adaptation of the book Girls Like Us, which was about the careers of female musicians, Mitchell, Carole King and Carly Simon. John Sayles was hired to write the script and Kate Jacobs had reportedly signed on to direct the film, but it fell apart before any official casting was confirmed.
“I squelched that,” Mitchell said in a recent interview with The Sunday Times.
Mitchell went on to dismiss Swift as an actress, revealing she told the producers, “All you’ve got is a girl with high cheekbones.”
However, Mitchell also had issues with the material itself, suggesting that her portrayal in the book was not entirely accurate. “It’s just gossip, you don’t have the great scenes…. There’s a lot of nonsense about me in books… assumptions, assumptions, assumptions,” she added.
Swift, who is currently enjoying the success of her newest album 1989, has only acted in a few projects, starting with a guest spot on CSI in 2009. She also appeared in the 2010 ensemble romantic comedy, Valentine’s Day and most recently made her dramatic debut in The Giver.
