Jonathan Rhys Meyers has apologized for his public relapse after being photographed walking around London drinking vodka straight from the bottle.

Jonathan Rhys Meyers Apologizes For Relapse

Meyers, who has a history of alcoholism and substance abuse, was photographed in May looking intoxicated while holding a bottle of vodka. The photos surfaced, causing widespread concern for the British actor, and many worried that Meyers’ recent fall off the wagon was the reason he did not attend Cannes to promote his new film, Damascus Cover.

Meyers took to Instagram to release a statement, calling the incident a “blip,” and insisted he was never scheduled to attend the Cannes Film Festival, so his relapse did not affect his professional commitments.

“I apologize for having a minor relapse and hope that people don’t think too badly of me. I stopped drinking immediately and it is no reflection on Damascus Cover as I was not meant to attend Cannes this year and I apologize to fans and colleagues,” he wrote on his fiancé Mara Lane’s Instagram Tuesday.

Meyers downplayed his relapse, adding, “I am on the mend and thank well wishers and sorry for my disheveled appearance as I was on my way home from a friends and had not changed. I feel I made a mistake and feel quite embarrassed, but this is just a blip in my recovery. Otherwise I’m living a healthy life.”

Meyers and Lane later shared a sweet couple’s selfie, apparently showing that the duo are still going strong in spite of Meyer’s relapse.
