Jonah Hill To Make Directorial Debut With ‘Mid ’90s’

Jonah Hill is taking his turn behind the camera – it has just been announced that the Wolf of Wall Street actor will be directing the coming-of-age film Mid ’90s.

This will be a huge step for Hill, marking another stage in his rise from comedian to well-respected artist, as his dramatic acting has been recognized in recent years with Oscar nominations for his performances in Wolf of Wall Street and Moneyball. Although this is his first time directing, Hill also worked on the script for 21 Jump Street, as well as an animated series Allen Gregory and screenplays like The Adventurer’s Handbook. He also hinted at interests in directing, as he directed a music video for Sara Bareilles in 2011.

It’s unclear exactly what this movie will be about, but sources agree that the film is centered around a young boy growing up in Los Angeles in the mid-1990s. The boy will be learning “life lessons with his skateboarding crew of friends.” Hill will surely be drawing from some personal experience, as he came of age in mid-1990’s Los Angeles as well.

The film will be produced by Scott Rudin and Eli Bush. Production dates have not been announced yet.

Hill hasn’t retired from the screen just yet, as he was in the recent Hail, Caesar and will be seen in the upcoming War Dogs. Also 23 Jump Street Men in Black was just announced, with James Bobin directing. Hill and Channing Tatum are returning to star in the third installment of their popular comedic franchise.
