Jon Stewart Returning To TV With HBO Deal

Jon Stewart has signed a four-year production deal with HBO following his departure from Comedy Central’s The Daily Show.

Jon Stewart Heads To HBO

HBO announced the partnership with Stewart on Tuesday, with the premium-cable network revealing that Stewart will be creating topical short-form digital content that will be showcased on HBO Now and HBO Go, as well as other platforms. In addition to the digital short-form content, Stewart will be working on other projects for the network, which has a first-look option for Stewart’s TV and film ventures.

“Jon Stewart led a revolution that changed the face of TV comedy on the Daily Show,” Michael Lombardo, president, HBO Programming said in a statement. “He graced our network nearly 20 years ago, so we’re thrilled to welcome back his immense talents in this next chapter of his career.”

Stewart added in the announcement, “Appearing on television 22 minutes a night clearly broke me. I’m pretty sure I can produce a few minutes of content every now and again.”

Stewart hosted his last episode of The Daily Show back in August, ending his 16-year-run skewering politicians and members of the media from behind his desk. Replacing him at the post is former Daily Show correspondent Trevor Noah.

As of yet, it’s unknown when Stewart’s new content will make its debut on HBO.
