Jon Stewart got emotional while addressing Congress this Tuesday. The former late night host has actively been an advocate for 9/11 first responders and their health care following the terrorist attacks that occurred 18 years ago.
A video taken at the panel shows a choked-up Stewart addressing the law makers that failed to show up to the meeting, leaving the room nearly empty. “Behind me, a filled room of 9/11 first responders, and in front of me, a nearly empty Congress,” he said, “Sick and dying, they brought themselves down here to speak to no one,” he continued. “Shameful. It’s an embarrassment to the country and it is a stain on this institution. And you should be ashamed of yourselves for those that aren’t here. But you won’t be, because accountability doesn’t appear to be something that occurs in this chamber.”
Stewart slams Congress for their outspoken support for the first responders to the public but disregard for their needs in legislation.

“There is not a person here, there is not an empty chair on that stage that didn’t tweet out ‘Never forget the heroes of 9/11’,” he said, “Well, here they are! And, where are they? Your indifference cost these men and women their most valuable commodity – time.” he said.
It was during this part of his speech that Stewart can be seen crying and unable to continue. After a moment of recollection, he continued, “it’s the one thing they’re running out of.”
