Jon Gosselin Books First Big DJ Gig In Atlantic City

Jon Gosselin is gearing up for his first big gig as a DJ and will appear at Atlantic City’s Harrah’s Resort on May 30.

DJ Jon Gosselin

Gosselin, former star of TLC’s Jon and Kate Plus Eight, has, admittedly, struggled to get work as of late, but the father of eight says he is excited to see his newest career of choice take off.

“I’m really excited about all of this. When you have a business plan and it doesn’t work, you’re like, ‘Oh well.’ When you have one that does work, you’re like, ‘Holy cow. It’s too good to be true,’” Gosselin told People of the gig.

Gosselin has been working as a DJ in local bars around the Reading, Pennsylvania, area where he resides, and this will be his first major job. Gosselin first became interested with DJing through his ex, Liz, who introduced him to the job when they were dating. When Liz moved out of state, Gosselin said, he took over her local jobs.

“I started really liking it. I was super interested in mixing music. I was hanging out with my friend DJ Koolie Kirk. He’s been mixing for 30 years. I met him when I was 15 years old, so way back in the day. I used to go Vinyl shopping with him… So then every day I took a music lesson from him using Vinyl and I used a digital system, so then we’d just go back and forth and start jam sessions, which is really cool,” Gosselin said in an interview with OK! Magazine in March.

Gosselin’s friend and mentor, DJ Koolie Kirk, will also be heading to Atlantic City and open for Gosselin. “The fact that I work with an amazing tour DJ allows me to do things I need to do at an appearance as a reality star. That’s the hour I can go to interact with the people who paid to come see me,” Gosselin said.

Gosselin, who is reportedly getting paid $20,000 for his DJ services as well as a meet-and-greet, admits that a large part of his appeal as a DJ comes from his reality star status. His employer at Eclipse Entertainers, John Alexander, confirmed that Gosselin’s celebrity acts as a sort of free advertisement for the business, telling People, “It’s common for a person to make a song request, and then take a selfie with him. And that’s where the magic begins! These pictures hit Facebook and Instagram and go a little viral, bringing a lot of word-of-mouth advertising.”

Gosselin admitted he is nervous for his first big show, but appeared hopeful that the night would be the beginning of a successful DJ career. “I don’t know what’s going to happen after May 30. If a lot of people show up and they see there’s a following, someone else might want to latch onto that like Tropicana or Sands or Borgata – or even Vegas,” Gosselin mused.
