Jon Chu, who most recently helmed Justin Bieber’s Believe, has confirmed he will be returning to direct the next G.I. Joe film. Whether or not star Channing Tatum will return has yet to be determined, he told Uinterview exclusively.
Over the last few months, Chu has had to field questions on whether heartthrob Tatum would reprise his role as McCullen/Destro/ Duke. “I’ve been trying to play it coy on this,” Chu told uInterview. “All of a sudden, there are these headlines saying Channing Tatum’s coming back in G.I. Joe.”
“The reality is we’re working on it now,” Chu added. “All possibilities are open, but I’m not saying either way for any of the characters, actually.”
In G.I. Joe: Retaliation, which came out in 2013, Dwayne Johnson played Roadblock and Bruce Willis played General Joe Colton. In the sequel, the team of G.I. Joes had to defend themselves against Cobra and corruption within the government. There’s been no word yet on what the plot will focus on in the third G.I. Joe flick. –Chelsea Regan
