Johnny Kemp, the Bahamian R&B singer who is best know for the hit song “Just Got Paid,” has died. He was 55.
Kemp was found dead in Jamaica Thursday morning, according to Jamaica police He was discovered floating at a beach in Montego Bay, TMZ reported.
“Passersby saw Kemp’s body floating faced down in the water,” the Jamaica Constabulatory Force said in a statement. “Police were summoned and the body removed to the morgue.”
The singer’s cause of death has not been determined.
Kemp had been scheduled to go on a Caribbean cruise this week, but he never boarded the ship, according to Reach Media Inc.
“Just Got Paid” was released in 1988 and hit No. 1 on the U.S. Billboard R&B chart. It also earned Kemp a Grammy Award nomination.
