Johnny Depp has settled an assault lawsuit ahead of trial in which a location manager on the film City Of Lies claimed the actor punched him on set. Depp recently won his defamation suit against ex-wife Amber Heard and was set to go to trial for this case in late July.

The plaintiff, Gregg “Rocky” Brooks, has claimed that Depp smelled like alcohol, and became irate with him after he informed the actor they would have to depart the hotel they were filming in. Brooks’ suit accused Depp of punching him twice in the rib cage, and shouting “I will give you $100,000 to punch me in the face right now!” Brooks did not respond or comply with the request according to his report, and Depp was allegedly “physically removed from the scene” by his own bodyguards.

Depp previously stated in 2018 that Brooks was actually the aggressor in the altercation, but he either cannot or doesn’t wish to prove this claim given the new settlement.

Brooks was then reportedly fired from the production after refusing to pledge not to sue the actor for the incident. The case has been settled for an undisclosed amount. There is still a chance for the settlement to be disputed and a trial may still occur, but more likely than not the parties will agree to the terms, and this case will just go silent.

Depp has settled prior civil cases outside of court as well. Two former bodyguards also sued the actor in 2018 for unpaid fees and unsafe working conditions, and they were settled the next year. This case was delayed several times by the Covid-19 pandemic.
