Johnny Depp May Face Perjury Charges In Australia, According To Deputy Prime Minister

Actor Johnny Depp may face perjury charges in Australia for an incident that occurred in 2015.

The incident occurred when Depp and his wife at the time, Amber Heard, flew into Australia on a private jet with their two dogs, having foregone registering the dogs with Australian customs. After a public squabble between Depp and Australian Deputy Prime Minister Barnaby Joyce, in which Joyce threatened to put the two dogs down, Depp and Heard apologized and the case seemed settled.

Now, Depp’s former business managers have claimed that Depp was fully aware that he was bringing the dogs to Australia illegally and that he pressured a member of his team to take the fall.

In response to the new allegations, Joyce told the Australian Broadcasting Corp., “If the allegation is correct, there’s a word for that – it is called perjury.”

He continued, “We’re an island continent and we take biosecurity very seriously and it doesn’t matter if you think that you’re Mr Who’s Who of Hollywood, you’re going to obey our laws.”

The allegations come as part of a bitter legal dispute between Depp and his former business managers, The Management Group (TMG), in which Depp claims TMG defrauded him of millions of dollars.

TMG claimed, in court papers obtained by People, that Depp was “fully aware that he was illegally bringing his dogs to Australia.”

Heard received the brunt of the punishment from the 2015 incident when she was placed on a $1,000 bond after pleading guilty to falsifying immigration documents. In addition, the couple made an apology video that Joyce posted to his Facebook page.

“If you disrespect Australian law, they will tell you firmly,” Depp says without emotion.

Depp is also in hot water for recent comments he made at the Glastonbury music festival, in which he joked about Donald Trump getting assassinated.

The Pirates of the Caribbean actor apologized for those remarks to People magazine saying that they were in “poor taste” and that they did not “come out as intended.”
