John Travolta has broken his silence about HBO’s Scientology documentary, Going Clear: Scientology and the Prison of Belief.

John Travolta Defends Scientology

Travolta, who has been a practicing Scientologist for decades, defended his controversial religion in light of the recent documentary, which claims to give an inside look at Scientology. In Going Clear, former Scientologists attest to a variety of practices that bolster claims that Scientology is cultish and manipulates its practicers.

“I haven’t experienced anything that the hearsay has [claimed], so why would I communicate something that wasn’t true for me?” Travolta, who has no intention of watching the documentary, told The Tampa Bay Times. “It wouldn’t make sense, nor would it for Tom [Cruise], I imagine.”

“I’ve been brought through storms that were insurmountable,” Travolta went on, adding Scientology has “been so beautiful for me, that I can’t even imagine attacking it.”

Back in 2014, Travolta had stated that Scientology had helped him cope with the death of his son Jett at just 16 years old.

“I will forever be grateful to Scientology for supporting me for two years solid, I mean Monday through Sunday,” Travolta said of the religion, which he claims has “saved his life” on multiple occasions. “They didn’t take a day off, working through different angles of the techniques to get through grief and loss, and to make me feel that finally I could get through a day.”

Leah Remini, who was raised a Scientologist and practiced alongside Travolta and Cruise for many years, famously left the Church of Scientology in 2013. The former King of Queens actress took to Twitter to voice her support of the documentary shortly after its premiere.

“Thank you to the brave who did something about it,” she tweeted. “And to those who didn’t have a voice, you do now.
