John Stamos Defends Appearance At Trump’s Mar-a-Lago Estate Amid Backlash
John Stamos, known for his time on Full House, made a controversial appearance at President Donald Trump‘s Mar-a-Lago estate, which led to online backlash from his liberal fans.
Stamos, 61, was slammed on social media after multiple photos of him appearing on stage and posing with other attendees were posted on his social media.
Stamos recently revealed the story of how he was kicked out of Scientology in his teens.
On his Instagram stories, Stamos revealed his visit was to serve as emcee for the Palm Beach Ray of Hope Gala, which helps to benefit education and therapeutic programs in organizations such as the South Florida Autism Center, Charter Schools and The Villages of South Florida Autism.
“I accepted the invitation to emcee the Palm Beach Ray of Hope Gala, an evening dedicated to honoring and uplifting our frontline heroes,” he wrote, “Supporting nurses isn’t political; it’s essential. These are people who care for us and our families when we need them most.
“I stand by the importance of healthcare, investing in those who care for our communities. My values and political views remain unchanged.”
Following his statement, social media users took to the internet to slam him online and vowed to unfollow his social media accounts. One user wrote, “John Stamos just ruined his brand forever. You can’t just visit Mar-a-Lago and expect the stink to leave you.”
“Time to cancel Full House reruns, can’t watch with thinking of this betrayal,” another added, “What’s next, DJ Tanner at a MAGA rally? Gross.”
Others have begun defending the sitcom actor, “Stamos can speak wherever he wants,” one user said. “Everyone has different views, but there is no need to attack someone for their view. If John wants to speak somewhere, he can, and I’m not hating or disliking him for it.”
Stamos frequently attends charity fundraising events. His wife, Caitlin McHugh Stamos, co-founded the Civic Soul nonprofit, which aims to unite people through acts of service.
