John Schneider Released For Jail For Non-Payment Of Alimony To Ex Wife Elvira Schneider

Dukes of Hazzard star John Schneider’s hard time in the Los Angeles County Jail only lasted for three hours.

Schneider was arrested on Tuesday at 10:24 am for not paying over $150,000 in delinquent alimony to his estranged wife, Elvira Schneider. He was booked into jail by 10:29 a.m. Luckily for him, he was released shortly after at 3:46 pm due to the state’s overcrowded prison system.

Within his five-hour sentence, Schneider praised the prison guards he encountered. “I never saw anything but people being treated with respect with dignity and with humor, which really surprised me, and whatever authority they needed to show in order to keep everybody safe,” he told Fox News.

In addition to serving time, Schneider was also required to complete 240 hours of community service, which he must still complete, according to TMZ. If he does not complete his community service and give his ex-wife the alimony, he will face five days in prison. Or maybe half a day, based on his last sentence.

His wife filed for their divorce back in November of 2014, after 21 years of being married. According to the court documents, she stated that their separation is due to irreconcilable differences.

By September 2016, Schneider was ordered to pay her $18,911 every month.

Back in February, the judge gave Schneider until March 14 to pay the money to support his ex-wife. The judge also ordered him to hand over his property in Apple Valley, California, to her and to resolve the tax liens, which he never did. “If I had it [money], I would’ve given it to her just to let this go away but I don’t have it,” he said.

His experience with the judicial system was different compared to what he saw in jail. “[Within the] court system, I was treated like I was guilty until proven innocent, like a second-class citizen,” he said after being released.
