John Rhys-Davies made some controversial comments on political correctness during an appearance on The Adam Carolla Show.
Rhys-Davies, mostly known for having played Gimli, the dwarf, in Peter Jackson’s The Lord of Rings trilogy, appeared on The Adam Carolla Show to promote the release on DVD of his movie Return to the Hiding Place, which tells the story of young Jews in Holland during World War II, fighting against the Nazis.
During the interview with host Adam Carolla, Rhys-Davies commented on political correctness and Islamic terrorism. The actor condemned the fact that “Christianity in the Middle East and in Africa is being wiped out physically,” adding to Carolla, “your country and my country are doing nothing about it”.
Rhys-Davies claimed that people in the Middle East and Africa were being “enslaved and killed because they are Christians,” and added that the “Western European Christian civilization” might end someday.
Rhys-Davies also compared Islamic terrorism to the West’s historical enemies, saying that “Fascism in Europe was destroyed,” just like the “Japanese imperialism in the Far East.” He called the generation who fought in wars against fascism “the greatest,” saying that “they knew what they were fighting for.”
Both Carolla and Rhys-Davies agreed that they didn’t want to be too judgmental, but also questioned the notion of political correction and the suggestion that people are more hesitant to judge extreme behavior. “There’s nothing wrong with judgment if your judgments are correct!” Carolla stated.
