John Oliver, though his show doesn’t officially return until 2015, couldn’t resist poking fun of New Year’s Eve prior to the annual party night.
Oliver, on hiatus from Last Week Tonight, posted a video on the Internet bashing New Year’s Eve celebrations and dubbing Dec. 31 the year’s worst holiday.
“New Year’s Eve is the worst. It combines three of the least pleasant things known to mankind: Forced interaction with strangers, being drunk, cold and tired, and having to stare at Ryan Seacrest for five solid minutes, waiting for him to tell you what the time is,” Oliver explained
Oliver suggests that instead of celebrating New Year’s Eve, “which is like the death of a pet,” people should attempt to avoid the whole evening via excuses – a fake cousin’s illness or a fabricated cleanse that no one will want to know the details of.
Last Week Tonight will premiere its second season Feb. 8, 2015.
