John Oliver Invites Usher, Michael Bolton & Cyndi Lauper Sing To Ask Politicians To Stop Using Their Music
John Oliver brought together music artists Usher, Michael Bolton, and Cyndi Lauper to perform a new song that asks politicians to stop using their music for campaigns — during Last Week Tonight on Sunday.

Oliver spoke to the audience about Donald Trump using Queen’s song “We Are the Champions” and The Rolling Stones’ hit “You Can’t Always Get What You Want” at the Republican National Convention last week — without each band’s permission.
The host pointed out that musicians are becoming angry at politicians who continue to use unauthorized songs for political events — especially when it comes to politicians they do not support.
“It is not okay for politicians to just take their songs, this happens every single election and it is time for musicians to come together and take a stand,” Oliver declared.
Suddenly, a music video featuring Usher, Bolton, Lauper and a few other singers appeared, as they sang a song titled “Don’t Use Our Song.”
“Stop using our music, that’s our one and only rule / we didn’t write these songs to make your campaign stop seem cool,” the group of pop stars sing to a slow ballad tempo. “Don’t use our song, because you use it wrong / it might seem appealing / but you’re just stealing.”
